Felling exited for Wellington

Kia ora bloggers.

In term one the year 7&8 plan to go to Wellington for our school camp. Since then we have been working so hard to make $1700 to go. We have been busking every cruise ship that has come into Paihia and normally we make about $500. Everyone who’s going to Wellington has to pay $50 to go so that we are helping to pay for the trip. Everyone is very excited to go because some people haven't been to Wellington or on a plan. We are leaving next Monday and coming back next Friday. We are allowed to bring $25 to spend while we are there.

Rugby World Cups.

In the past week we have been learning about the Rugby World Cup. First we had to find out which 20 counties are competing in the World Cups. Then we needed to find out what each country's Rugby team’s nickname is. Afterwards we had to find out what their emblem is and find a picture of it.  What I learnt was who the 20 countries are and who competes at the world cup. I also learnt that Japan is also known as the land of the rising sun.

Cross Country

Last Friday a group of students participated in the inter school cross country. The first runners were the five year old girls then the five year old boys. Once the 5 year old kids had finished running the 12s & 13s ran after them. I was excited because that was the age I was running with. When the lady pressed the porn everyone started running. When we got closer to the hill it started raining, but I just keep pushing myself though the rain and up the hill. I began to run down the hill, reaching to grab branches on my way down so I didn't face plant. I finally ran down the path that leads down to the finish line. Everyone was cheering me on as I ran, it made me so proud. I came in 2nd place in the inter-school cross-country; a girl from Kawakawa came first. I  was proud of her because she gave it her best. Sorry there are no photos.

Cross Country.

Last week on Friday Paihia School had Cross Country at Bledsloe Domain. We all ran in our ages for example, the 5 year old boys ran first then the 5 year old girls second. My friends and I was excited when the day came because  the last time we ran there was last year. We were so lucky because it wasn't raining while we were running. When it came to our turn, we were thinking if we should run fast or jog. We started to joged at the beginning then once we went up the hill we ran faster. I liked running down the hill because it gives me a boost. I felt proud of myself at the end because I finished the race and I came in first.  We all had fantastic day.

What we did well was working together as a team, sharing the ball and talking to each other.

Marble Run

During the last couple of weeks Te Ngahere have been learning how to make a marble run, also known as a ramp. We were allowed to use anything, so my group and I decided to use an ice cream container, a math book and a marble. We also had a measuring tape to measure how far you got up to, you have to roll your marble down your ramp and measure it and see if you got up to 110cm. You have to remember to measure the ramp not where you put your marble. One of the things that I have learnt was to change one variable at a time.

Beeswax

Image result for beeswax cartoon png

Yesterday my class and I made beeswax wraps. My friends Boombe, Keekee and I went first. We got given this little sheet, then we were allowed to draw on it with vivid and felt. Once we finished drawing on them, we went over to our whare kai because that is where the beeswax was. We had to dip our wrap (the thing we drew on) and move it around in the beeswax. 5 seconds later, we took it out and let beeswax wrap drip on a piece of cardboard so it could dry. Once we were finished, we went over to our class and grabbed three people to go over to the whare kai so they can do their ones. The reason why we made the beeswax wrap was to replace plastic wrapping.

Duffy Day

On Tuesday we had our ever first Duffy assembly at Paihia School. A character named Zinkie introduced herself to Paihia School, she told us how to do some moves for self defence. She told us that we have to dance to the fighting moves. Also she was looking for someone, so she can give out her 1 million dollar signature. After doing our dancing we sat down and crossed our legs and meditated. We had to imagine that we were on her planet. At the end of our assembly Te Awa, Te Moana, Te Tahuna, Te Maunga and our class had to find one person (or two) that had been really good in class to get two books in front of the whole school. I was one of the people that got a Duffy book.

Maromaku Sports day.

Sport day in Maromaku

On Friday the 29th of June we went to Maromaku to play sports. I played rugby with a whole lot of people. Waikare School needed abou
t 4 people from our school to be in their term for the day because they did not have enough people.
The first school we played against was Pakaraka. We had a game playing against them and even though they won,
I really enjoyed playing against Pakaraka.
The second game we had was a challenge because I think that we were coming a tie but they won. We did not care if we lost we just cared
if we had fun.
The third game we played was really cool because we won. That was our first game we won on that day.
But the sad thing was that two people got hurt so they could not play. A girl named Alexi hurt her leg so she could not play for the last game.
That was sad, and then a boy named Lesane was getting a try then this boy came and tackled him and he landed on his shoulder.
Everyone was running to him
because he was crying. My uncle Pep had to take him to Kawakawa hospital.

Bay Bush Action

Two weeks ago we had visitors named Stella and Brad they came to Paihia School and talked to the year 6, 7 and 8’s about the Bay Bush Action. They talked to us about how they set up traps for the pests in the ngahere. Lot’s of pests has been eating our native birds and their eggs. Then they took all of us down to our school field and set up some traps. One day later we went down and had a look to see if we caught anything, we did we caught a big rat and then we  got rid of it.

Vanya Metaphors Poem.

In Te Ngahere  we have been learning how to use metaphors in our writing, also we made a poem about ourselves using metaphors. I did well at fixing some of the metaphors. I really enjoyed learning how to use metaphors I thought that it would be hard to use metaphors but when I had a go at metaphors I knew how to do it. Our Walt was to use language features appropriately showing a developing understanding of effect, this is my first draft.

Persuasive Writing

Should Plastic Bags Be Used At Supermarkets?

I think that New Zealand should get rid of plastic bags because sea animals always get hurt from the rubbish that is around them. Whenever turtles see plastic bags they think it is Jellyfish.

When ever people go shopping  at the supermarkets, some people take lots of plastic bag which people can not see the plastic bags because the other plastic bags are hiding behind the other plastic bags.

Plastic bags are used for containing and transporting goods such as foods, produce, powders, ice, magazines, chemicals, and waste.

Plastic bags tend to disrupt the environment in a serious way. They get into soil and slowly release toxic chemicals. They eventually break down into the soil, with the unfortunate consequence being that animals eat them and often choke and die.
